Frequently asked questions.

  • Does Primrose offer hourly consultations?

Yes.  Lots of folks just want to chat about things with an experienced professional before taking the next steps on their own. We're happy to help. The hourly rate for consultations is $300. We can talk about paint colors, furniture arrangement, or source items together. We can even help with bathrooms and kitchens where clients have done the legwork and pulled together paint swatches, tile samples, lighting ideas, cabinet and hardware samples and we review to make sure that everything coordinates before final decisions are made.

  • Is my project too small?

All projects are different and we may take smaller projects if the schedule allows. If we're not able to take on your project at the current time, we may be able to schedule something for a later date. When in doubt, just reach out!

  • Can Primrose work with existing furniture pieces, and also recommend new ones?

Yes. While blank slates are super fun, we understand that most folks have existing pieces they’d like to continue to use. These unique pieces often have a strong family connection and need to be incorporated into the final design. No problem.

  • What does Primrose provide to clients to help them visualize the final design?

Great question. Primrose provides floor and furniture plans, a design document that outlines all of the items sourced for your project, and material samples. The design document shows photos of the selections and their cost. These materials fully illustrate our vision for your project and the specific pieces that we’ve sourced just for you.

  • Can Primrose source retail items for our project?

Yes. Frequently we use retail outlets to find the perfect piece for your interior. Other times, we will use “trade” sources to create a design. Most projects end up being about 75% retail and 25% trade items. We like providing our clients with a large pool of furniture and lighting to select from.

  • How long will this take?

For the design process, you will have Primrose Interior Design’s full attention. You may have had to wait to get on our schedule, but now that we are ready for you, we are excited to move forward. However, it is difficult for us to provide a precise timetable for the entire project. Especially now, with supply chain issues, furniture, bath fixtures, fabrics, and lighting are taking longer than ever to become available. Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do about that. I urge patience and try to make the overall decision process fun. Once we work through everything - we wait. I know it’s hard, especially when you see the improvements we are going to make, but it’s part of the process for now.

  • Can Primrose review architectural plans?

Yes. Prior to building a new home or embarking on a large addition, we are happy to review the existing plans with an eye toward furniture placement and interior functionality. Frequently, Primrose will go on to help with furnishing the interiors as well. We charge for these as if they were an hourly consultation.

  • Does Primrose work with Architects and Contractors?

Yes.  Primrose has worked with many talented architects and home builders in the area to help create custom homes for clients. We guide clients through the selection process for exterior finishes, doors, trim and hardware, floors stains, kitchen and bath cabinetry, paint colors, tile and bath fixture selection, and the sourcing of all the furniture, rugs and accessories. We provide material samples to clients and then coordinate with the builder to make sure that all your selections are implemented.

  • Does Primrose have contractors to implement the design plan?

No. We do not subcontract any home improvement work. We do have a range of contacts in the field that we are happy to recommend to clients. We’ve built professional relationships over the years and enjoy recommending these talented folks to our clients. We’ve worked with many contractors, painters, electricians, woodworkers that our clients love and want to use again. We’re happy to help you coordinate with folks we recommend or someone of your own choosing.

  • Can Primrose work remotely for my project not located in the Northern Virginia area?

Yes. We are able to work remotely on projects, if we are provided with to-scale printed plans to use. We’ve worked with folks to furnish vacation rentals, build a dream retirement home by a lake, and even help with a first apartment for a child away at school.
